Monster Alphabet

I created this alphabet series as part of the 36 days of type Instagram challenge. I am now exploring turning these illustrations into fun wearables! I made this entire series using the Adobe Illustrator mobile app.

The Process

I sketched out each letter first then transferred the drawing into the Adobe Illustrator mobile app. Using the Apple Pencil, I leveraged the vector drawing abilities to outline the drawing then I refined the vector shapes before adding color. I added the final details last such as hair, scales and shading for each monstrous letter.

The final letters

The monsters embody a range of states from cute and happy to awkward and apathetic. By having monsters reflect a variety of emotional states I feel it makes them more relatable and allows people to read what state the monster is for themselves. For the final letters I chose vibrant playful colors to help channel the idea of playfulness I wanted to imbue into each monstrous letter.

I have been expanding this series to include wearables that I can share via my artist shop online. This way everyone can get in on the monstrous fun!
