Overview

The goal of this effort was to define the next-generation console for VMware’s Workspace ONE platform. Workspace ONE encompasses various technologies that help administrators manage devices, virtual machines and users. As part of this effort, we sought to consolidate these technologies and platforms into a single unified console. With this, we wanted to simplify workflows, enable easier onboarding and incorporate in-depth analytics. This effort serves as a guidepost for how our product evolves in the future and demonstrates the strategy for it to become a proactive and flexible system.

Storyboarding

When I started working on this project, my first task was to create a series of high level storyboards focused on outlining the product. With this in mind, I worked with multiple stakeholders such as product managers, design managers, research consultants and subject matter experts to help craft  the narrative of the ‘next generation IT administrator’. The initial storyboards highlighted features such as an easy setup process, streamlined integration with third party systems and distinct administrator roles.

DEFINING the vision

After using the storyboards to define the focal points and gain buy-in from stakeholders I moved on to crafting high fidelity designs to showcase the end-to-end experience. I set about defining the look and feel of the product and how best to represent our key features: customizable system, easy setup, integrated catalogs, and data insights.

Users can customize the Workspace ONE platform according to their industry and quickly get the system setup.

These are examples of how the platform integrates with resources such as app catalogs and how users can easily see what has been assigned to their workspaces.

The platform guides users on how to customize their data analytics so they can get insights into their deployments via an intelligent system.

Automated workflows and rule definitions are integrated into the platform so relevant data will surface over time.

Product impact

This vision effort defined the long-term strategy of the Workspace ONE platform. It consolidated support for a unified experience across the VMware End User Computing products. The product vision serves as the guide post of how to simplify services and features as the product evolves and further integrates data into the platform.
